Bateesians are among the most unusual lifeforms in all of Cosmerrium. Born without defining characteristics of their own, these gelatinous beings absorb elements of whatever they encounter. Physical objects can become suspended within their translucent bodies, but their extraordinary ability goes much deeper—the personalities of Bateesians are shaped by the individuals around them.

Unfortunately for Globulon, one of the most influential figures in his life has been Zorrtexx. After meeting the criminal at a young age, Globulon remained by his side and gradually absorbed his partner's worst qualities. The longer a Bateesian remains around someone, the stronger that personality influence becomes, multiplying over time until those adopted characteristics become an inseparable part of the individual.

There may once have been hope for Globulon had he been separated from Zorrtexx early enough. After countless cycles together, however, that opportunity is long gone. Globulon Krunn has become every bit as ruthless and irredeemable as the criminal who shaped him.

Together, Globulon and Zorrtexx have traveled Cosmerrium pursuing countless schemes and criminal contracts. Their latest assignment brings the pair to Akkadian Prime, where they have been hired to apprehend the reclusive cybernetics expert Dr. Zajjarii. As they close in on their target, they discover they aren't the only ones searching for the scientist. Other interested parties are converging on Akkadian Prime—including the mysterious chaos agents of the Mortal Thorn.
